Welcome note

Dear colleagues,
Dear friends of medical physics,

Given the situation in 2020, the annual DGMP meeting could only take place virtually. We are thus very much looking forward to welcoming you in person in Vienna in 2021. After 2017, this year's conference will take place as a Joint Conference of the ÖGMP, DGMP & SGSMP again, this time under the scientific governance of the ÖGMP. Therefore, we are more than happy to welcome you to the Austria Center Vienna from 19–22 September 2021.

Exciting days with various highlights await us. In each branch of medical physics we are experiencing a digital evolution, which we aim to reflect in our four-day programme. Thus, we are especially welcoming abstract submissions on automation, artificially intelligence and how to clinically implement these techniques. In our well-established tradition, other abstract topics aim to embrace the full spectrum of medical physics, ranging from ionising to non-ionising radiation for imaging and therapy, radiation protection as well as quality assurance.

Based on the very positive response and feedback of last year’s meeting, we will put emphasis on a larger range of practical courses and integrated several hands-on workshops as well as on refresher courses. Scientific meetings, poster sessions and plenary lectures are, as usual, further enriched by the Forum Young Medicine Physics, which includes a multifaceted programme on its own.

Our beautiful city of Vienna also has a lot to offer and is always worth a visit. The spirit of Vienna is characterised by the architecture of buildings around the Vienna Ringstrasse from the Wilhelminian period, but also by the Baroque and Art Nouveau. The historical city centre as well as the Schönbrunn Palace are today part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. The Schönbrunn Palace, the Vienna Imperial Palace, the Spanish Riding School and the Sissi Museum should not be missed when sightseeing.

We are very much looking forward to meeting you in Vienna!

Best regards

Dietmar Georg and Wolfgang Birkfellner
